J&A Roofing was founded in Brooklyn in 1938 by Jake Horowitz, an immigrant who built a roofing business on hard work, honesty, and quality craftsmanship. While his sons Joe and Al served in World War II -- Joe as a naval aviator in the Pacific, Al as an Army veteran of the Battle of the Bulge -- Jake kept the business running.
When Joe and Al returned home, they headed north to the Hudson Valley, operating as J&A Roofing and Siding Company with offices in Poughkeepsie, Kingston, and Hudson. Al retired in the late 1970s, and Joe ran the company with his wife Ann until the early 1990s, when their son Ian took the reins and centralized all operations at a single Kingston location -- where J&A Roofing Company, Inc. continues to operate today.
Today, the 3rd and 4th generations of the Horowitz family all work under one roof, upholding the same work ethic and integrity that Jake started in Brooklyn over 85 years ago.
